October 5, 2006: The USS Benjamin Stoddert was meeting in Valley Forge for their second annual reunion. The Chairman, Herman Chambers was commenting about how pleased he was with the turnout. While discussing the matter with several other attendees, it was mentioned that the morale was always high on the Adams Class Ships. As a result, we decided to check and see how many other ships of the class had not yet held a reunion. After searching the internet later that evening we found that the USS Tattnall (DDG-19) had not formed an organization and apparently had never held a reunion.

October 20, 2006: MRTR admin staff created a new data base file for the USS Tattnall. Tattnall was added to the list of new commands that we are now working on in our development program. At 0900 we started sending email messages to those former crew members listed on navysite.de. By noon we were finished. Website data has been entered. We are now underway.

October 21, 2006: We have sent information email messges to the 117 people listed on destroyers.com. Of 117 messages sent, 40 or almost 35 percent bounced. After 2 days of work we have located 7 members of the Tattnall crew.

October 22, 2006: MRTR has been advised that the Tattnall has already been doing reunions. We rceived the following message from Ken Pompa.

nice to see someone trying to get stuff together. However, you are not the first. A fellow named Leroy Houghton did tattnall reunions until his untimely death about 2 years ago. I have hosted 2 reunions for crew members of '66-'70, and we had one last september in Hampton roads. We're supposed to have one in 2007, but it's not confirmed yet. I think ours is successful because of the fact that we keep costs as low as possible, and there are no yearly "dues" or anything like that. I'm in touch with about 70 ex crew, and you can get their emails by going to the website i just started--- www.usstattnall.net notice it's not dot com. just go to the page marked "crew", and if you click on the name, you can send email to those who have an email address. As for whether or not you'd get a lot of ex crew interested, i really can't say. Like i said-- our "mini" reunions were a success because they were in easily accessible places, and the costs weren't outrageous. If you're thinking of reunions in places like branson mo, or las vegas, i honestly don't think you'd get many to attend. I found when i hosted mine that the guys are more interested in getting together to relive some old times and share memories and memorablia. Leroy Houghton used to combine his tatt reunion with the c.f. adams, because he served on both, but at the most, he only had 28 people show up for each ship. still, that's not bad. anyway, i'd enjoy getting a newsletter if you start one. If i can help in anyway, please don't hesitate to write. as with you, put tattnall or some such thing in the heading so you can get past my spam. Good luck.

We sent him a message asking if we chould continue. Development program suspended temporarily.

October 23, 2006: MRTR sent another message to Ken Pompa asking his intentions. We have advised him that if he intends to continue with his plans for a 2007 reunion we will not compete with him. We also advised him that we will gladly forward contact information on the 18 people we have found so far.

Our plan is to assist with forming an Association and set up a reunion at a quality hotel with tours and group meal functions. We will work with or without him, but trying to compete with him will hurt both of us and is not in the best interest of the group. Therefore our development program remains suspended until we hear from Mr. Pompa.
